PREPARING
FOR THE FAMILY INTERVIEW
Thank
you for selecting the Nanny Exchange as your nanny
referral service! We are truly excited to be working with
you to find you an amazing position where you can work and
grow with in a wonderful family environment. The following
are suggested tips to make the interviewing process a
positive and successful experience. These are just a few
sample subjects families often look for in a caregiver:
- Consciousness
of safety and well-being.
- Engages
in physical and education activities.
- Timeliness
and reliability.
- Positive
behavior and role-modeling including appropriate clothing, language,
and eating habits.
- Communication
with parents and children; good listening skills and
even-tempered speech.
- Respect
and remain in compliance with parents wishes.
- High
level of energy and excitement for the position.
Most
of all, it is important to show a genuine interest in
their children. The family is so excited to meet you and
have made many sacrifices to have you come to their home.
Often times they arrange their busy schedules, clean the
house, make cookies, all for your interview!! The
following are suggested tips to help you make a lasting
impression.
Call
each family on the morning of the interview to confirm the
appointment and directions. Let them know that you are
excited to meet them and their children!
Knowing
how to dress is very important because it reflects the
positive role-modeling that all parents are looking for!
Be sure to incorporate the following guidelines:
We
suggest wearing casual/dress khakis and a button up shirt.
Children are not interested in seeing your belly button,
cleavage, or the top of your thigh. We want you to be
comfortable so that you can play with the child or
children and not be worried about the position of your
clothing. Furthermore we suggest avoiding lots of make up,
dangly earrings, or extra long nails. Again this is a
precaution so that you can hold the child or baby and yet,
not lose an ear, rub off your make up on the baby, and
finally avoid harming the child with extra long nails. The
family is excited to see you and realize that you will be
influencing their children on the way they will be
dressing each day.
In
addition to being prepared for the questions that your
family may ask you, it is also important to prepare a list
of age appropriate questions to ask your family. Parents
will be greatly impressed by your organization and level
of interest! A few examples are:
- What
are the ages of your children and what are your goals
for them?
- What
are your views of discipline?
- What
are you currently working on with your children?
- What
are toys, games, and children's characters are your
children currently excited about?
Bring
letters of recommendation,
resume, etc. Make them a visual presentation of who you
are!
Leave
an hour early with the family's phone number and address
just in case.
Thanks
again for selecting the nanny exchange we are looking
forward to finding you the perfect family match!
